Biography
A Slovak astronomer specialising in astrophotography and the observation of comets and small planets. He worked in the observatories of Skalnaté pleso, Piszkésteto (Hungary) and Piwnice (Poland). Besides determining the exact position of hundreds of objects in space, he also discovered several asteroids and planets. The first planet, discovered in 1971, was named after Slovakia. For the small planet 4573, discovered on the 5th of October 1986, he suggested the name Piešťany. The efforts and results of the prominent Slovak discoverer and observer Milan Antal were also rewarded by the International Astronomical Union, which named asteroid number 6717 "Antal" after him. Milan Antal has the discovery of 17 small planets to his credit, of which the majority have already been named.
